Start with the dinosaurs, what evolutionary advantage there was to have such humongous size? What about 10 feet tall giant fungus, or dragon fly with wing span of 35 cm. None of them exists today.
On another issue, what is driving the plate tectonics. The answer will be gravity, i.e. earth gravity, which pulls all things down. On a perfectly symmetric earth this pulling down force will be countered by what is known as keystone effect. There will be no buckling, no cracks, and not volcanoes. The real earth, however, was hit regularly by giant meteorites, which caused earth mantle to crack into pieces, or tectonic plates. In all likelihood, these plates are going to be also tilted in some kind of angle, with respect the the horizon. Each tectonic plate now fights its own war against gravity and, when pulled under, starts to rub and slide against neighboring plate, and thus starts earth quakes.
